Taylor Swift’s legal team is officially hitting back after a former Vegas performer sued her over The Life of a Showgirl!
According to Page Six, performer Maren Wade claims Taylor’s album title infringes on her longtime “Confessions of a Showgirl” trademark. But Taylor’s lawyers are calling the lawsuit “absurd” and accusing Wade of trying to profit off Swift’s fame and album rollout.
In new court filings, Page Six reports that Taylor’s team argued there’s "no way" fans would confuse Taylor’s massive global project with Wade’s smaller cabaret brand.
They note that filing states: "This motion, just like Maren Flagg’s lawsuit, should never have been filed… . It is simply Ms. Flagg’s latest attempt to use Taylor Swift’s name and intellectual property to prop up her brand."
Page Six also repots that Taylor’s attorneys also claim Wade only began heavily pushing “The Life of a Showgirl” phrasing online AFTER Taylor announced the album.
According to the filing, the showgirl allegedly made more than 40 Taylor-related posts across Instagram and TikTok following the announcement.
Page Six says Taylor legal team says Maren Wade’s social accounts became “flooded” with Taylor content in an effort to tie herself to the pop star’s rollout. Wade’s attorney says they still plan to move forward with the lawsuit and will respond in court next week.
