Met Gala 2026: Recap

The Met Gala 2026 had some BIG moments!

This year's theme was Costume Art with the dress code Fashion Is Art: sculpture, history, and even the beauty of aging. And honestly? Some people got it… and some people very much did not.

Let’s start with one of the most interesting concepts of the night: Bad Bunny showing up as an old man. It felt like a direct nod to the beauty and inevitability of aging... turning something we usually avoid into something artistic and intentional. That’s the kind of risk the Met is supposed to be about. Add in his custom Zara moment, and it felt grounded but still thoughtful.

But then… there were choices.

Zoë Kravitz had people talking, but not necessarily for the right reason. Only showing her right hand? It seemed like an attention grab surrounding the rumors her and Harry Styles

And Heidi Klum… I get the vision, I really do. She was going for the Veiled Vestal sculpture, but the execution? It gave more “living statue performer in Rome” than high-fashion interpretation.

Tyla in Valentino leaned into a peacock-inspired look—beautiful, no question—but it didn’t quite connect to the theme. It felt more red carpet than museum-worthy.

nd then there’s Beyoncé, which pains me to say… but this was a miss. The skeletal concept had potential, but it didn’t translate the way it should have. For reference, this was by Olivier Rousteing (pronounced oh-liv-ee-ay rhoo-stayn), and it just didn’t hit the level we expect from either of them.

Now, let’s talk about the ones who understood the assignment.

Emma Chamberlain in Mugler was stunninggg! Literally described as a “living watercolor” by Jared Ellner. It felt fluid, artistic, and intentional. Exactly what the night called for.

Sabrina Carpenter’s Dior look was one of the most clever of the night. Constructed from film of Sabrina, the Audrey Hepburn movie. That’s fashion as storytelling.

Kylie Jenner gave us a modern take on the Venus de Milo, blending classical sculpture with contemporary styling. It felt elevated, not costume-y.

On the sculpture front, Hailey Bieber in Saint Laurent delivered. The molded 24-karat gold breastplate paired with the royal blue chiffon skirt was striking, clearly inspired by historical armor, but still soft and wearable.

Kendall Jenner as the Winged Victory of Samothrace was another strong interpretation: clean, recognizable, and very on-theme.
