Britney Spears was arrested in Ventura County, California on suspicion of DUI late Wednesday night.
According to TMZ, authorities say she was pulled over around 9:30 p.m. and later booked into custody in the early morning hours.
Witnesses say she was swerving all over the road before cops pulled her over.
TMZ also notes that Britney was released just a few hours later under a "cite and release" process, meaning she did not remain in jail overnight.
They note that after the traffic stop, officers reportedly took her to a hospital so blood could be drawn to determine her intoxication level.
However, Page Six reports that sources say Britney was crying while in custody and appeared overwhelmed by the situation… the reason she was so upset was because she didn’t want to let her fans down..
TMZ notes that Britney is expected to appear in court over the incident in May as the case moves forward.
