According to Yahoo, reports say investigators are looking into pills allegedly found in her possession during the arrest.
They note that authorities are testing the pills to determine exactly what they are and whether they were legally prescribed.
Yahoo also writes that depending on what the tests show, the situation could lead to additional charges beyond the DUI.
They report that experts say those factors could influence whether Spears faces fines, probation — or potentially jail time.
Yahoo says that the pop star was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Ventura County and is expected to appear in court in May as the case moves forward.
