Harry Styles recently explained in a BBC Radio 1 interview why he unexpectedly appeared in the crowd at the Vatican’s conclave election where Pope Leo XIV was chosen back in May 2025.
According to Entertainment Weekly, He wasn’t there for religious reasons or publicity — it was basically a happy coincidence.
They note Harry said he was in Rome getting a haircut when people suddenly started chanting “Habemus papam!” — the Latin phrase meaning “we have a pope” that signals a new pope has been elected.
Entertainment Tonight reports that Harry realized he was only a few minutes’ walk away, he decided to check it out in person and ended up among the crowd in Saint Peter’s Square as the news broke.
