The Kansas City Chiefs have officially announced they’ll be leaving Arrowhead Stadium in Missouri and relocating to a brand-new stadium in Kansas by the 2031 NFL season after their current lease expires.
Page Six reports that Kansas lawmakers unanimously approved funding for a roughly $3 billion domed stadium, with a plan to use tax-backed bonds tied to sales and liquor revenue generated around the site.
They note Chiefs leadership originally hoped to renovate Arrowhead, but a Missouri sales tax proposal to help fund upgrades was rejected by voters — leaving the team to embrace the more ambitious Kansas deal.
Page Six reports that they proposed location for the new stadium is near Kansas Speedway and The Legends entertainment district, about 25 miles west of Arrowhead’s current site.
They note that the move keeps the Chiefs in the greater Kansas City area but puts their home field across the Missouri-Kansas state line — a major shift after decades at Arrowhead.
