Ryan Seacrest and the team remembered Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on-air on Monday, September 21. The late associate justice of the Supreme Court, who became a legal, cultural and feminist icon, died on Friday, September 18, due to complications of metastatic pancreas cancer.

RBG, the second-ever woman to serve on the Supreme Court, was a pioneering advocate when it came to women’s rights and became a cultural icon, serving as a role model for women of all ages.

She grew up in Brooklyn, New York, in the 1930s and 40s and graduated from Cornell University and later attended Harvard Law School, where she was one of just nine women in a class of about 500. She juggled school all while taking care of her first child. She completed her degree at Columbia Law School, but despite graduating at the top of her class, she couldn’t find a job.

"There was not a single firm in the entire city of New York that would offer me a job," she once recalled, adding that being Jewish, a woman, and a mother were all against her.

RBG proved wrong and became responsible for arguing six landmark cases on gender equality before the U.S. Supreme Court and winning five of them to eliminate legal barriers that held women back in the workplace and civic life. She also supported abortion rights, marriage equality, the Affordable Care Act, and women seeking restitution for unequal pay.

While battling cancer, she never slowed down and also took up her now notoriously hard fitness routine, planking for minutes!

“I was watching the news,” Seacrest shared on-air. “And there was this little girl … standing out in front of the Supreme Court building and the news walked up and interviewed her and she said: ‘Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a superhero wearing a robe instead of a cape.’ … It was so simple and so powerful.”

Listen back to Seacrest and the team reflect on RBG for more.
