Have you downloaded Quibi yet? If you havenât, you will. The new platform, a portmanteau of âquick bites,â offers movies, reality shows and news programs made for mobile all under 10 minutes and featuring a broad range of offerings from movies to documentaries and news shows starring the likes of Jennifer Lopez, LeBron James, Chance the Rapper, Idris Elba, Bill Murray, Steven Spielberg and Chrissy Teigen.
Quibi founder Jeffrey Katzenberg shared with Ryan Seacrest via Zoom on-air on Wednesday, April 8, he wanted to create Quibi as a platform for Hollywood to join the likes of TikTok, IGTV, etc. but with the premium caliber of production used for the big screen.
âFor me, I got excited about could we bring what we make and adapt it in this universe?â he explained, sharing they have 50 original shows and 500 episodes featuring the most talented filmmakers and stars both behind and in front of the camera.
Quibi has also partnered with iHeartRadio for a quick, informative music show titled Pop5 hosted by music reporter Tim Kash, which will be part of Quibiâs Daily Essentials, providing viewers with the latest in pop music news.
The uber successful executive partnered with Meg Whitman to launch Quibi and gathered nearly $1.8 billion from investors, a move that was deemed to be a massive home run or swing and a miss.
So how does the former chairman of Walt Disney Studios and DreamWorks media mogul decide which career moves to make?
âThe most fun thing for me is I love taking on things that are hard. 'If not impossible, if not improbable' â thatâs my home address,â Katzenberg shared. âThatâs where I live and I have my whole life.â
âIâm a builder,â he continued. âI love seeing ⊠over the horizon, around the corner. Usually at the outset Iâve mostly always been treated with, âOh, I donât think thatâs going to workâ ⊠right? Thatâs what you hear and hereâs a way to think abut it: If you are going to do something that is unique and is original, itâs by definition going to be risky because no one has done it before.â
Katzenberg concluded you have to be fearless.
âIf you fear failure, you will not take a risk and if you donât take a risk, you will actually not do something unique and original.â
