This Video of 5-Year-Old Selena Gomez Being Sassy Is Life

Channeling 5-year-old Selena Gomez is our new motto. The singer’s mom, Mandy Teefey, posted an adorable video of her from 1997 talking on the phone about her first day of school and it is too cute.

Teefey explained in the caption that she was calling Gomez from work to find out about her first of school and thankfully, for us, someone was filming little Gomez at the time.

"My teacher said I gotta do all this stuff again!" Gomez adorably exclaims in the video. "I gotta do it by myself!"

"My sassy, independent, boss lady, adorable gigantic piece of my heart, first born love," Teefey captioned the home video. "Gracie is exactly like this. Diabolical. XO. My girls are born leaders. Why do they grow up? Her sweet little eyes and massive eyelashes."

The “Wolves” singer went on to star in Barney & Friends a few years later and recently reflected on her childhood after revisiting her hometown.

"The home I grew up in, from birth to 13... (no one was home when I knocked this time lol) I visit this place every chance I get," she captioned a photo of her sitting on the front porch. "In many ways it very well could have been better than my life today, but I'm grateful for a voice that can enable change today," she noted. "Even when I don't know how to do it well or actually want it. I love you Grand Prairie. Thank you."

Teefey’s post comes on the heels of Gomez’s ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber getting engaged to girlfriend Hailey Baldwin. According to multiple reports Gomez has moved on from the singer and wasn’t affected by the proposal.

"Selena was surprised an engagement happened this quickly but not surprised Justin would do something like this knowing who he is. At the end of the day though she doesn't really care," E! Online reports. "Selena is totally over him. She had tried again to make it work that last time and it didn't work out."
