Miley Cyrus is officially just “Miley” now and her dad Billy Ray Cyrus is completely supportive of the name change.
According to EW, Billy Ray called it a “natural progression” for his daughter and compared her to music icons who are known by just one name, like Dolly, Cher, Elvis and Prince.
They note that he also joked that he actually tried going by “Cyrus” earlier in his career, but his record label wanted him to keep the full name.
EW reports that this name change is all part of Miley’s new musical era. Her 10th studio album, Bass Persuades, comes out September 18. Even better... the first single from the album drops TODAY, so we’re getting our first taste of the new era right now.
