Taco Bell’s Toasted Cheddar Chalupa Is Back With A New Vegetarian Version

Last year, Taco Bell debuted the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa. Described as a "decadent, upgraded" version of Taco Bell’s iconic Chalupa, the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa was an instant hit. The updated menu item featured 6-month aged cheddar toasted right onto the shell—sounds amazing, right?

While the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa hasn't been on Taco Bell's menu for a hot minute now, the fast food joint just announced it's making a comeback. Not only will the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa be available again starting November 5, Taco Bell is also launching a vegetarian version of the popular dish. The Black Bean Toasted Cheddar Chalupa is certified vegetarian by the American Vegetarian Association and features all the "craveable flavors of the original, but with the plant-based protein of Taco Bell’s signature black beans rather than seasoned beef, grilled chicken, or marinated steak," according to a press release.

Taco Bell's vegetarian customers will thrilled with the news that The Black Bean Toasted Cheddar Chalupa will be added to its menu. According to Taco Bell, before the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa was developed, the classic Chalupa was the menu item that fans had most frequently swapped out meat for beans through customization. This vegetarian offering will hit menus nationwide alongside the regular version. Both will be available for a limited-time only.

Taco Bell has big plans for its menus In 2021, too. Customers can expect even more official vegetarian versions of their favorite menu offerings. The brand recently launched its new Veggie Cravings Menu, which includes two other entirely new menu items: the Black Bean Chalupa and Veggie Nachos Party Pack. These new items join the 13 existing vegetarian items currently available at Taco Bell.
