Famed Columnist Claims She Was Sexually Assaulted By President Donald Trump

President Trump Announces Revised NAFTA Deal With Mexico

A dramatic new accusation has been leveled against President Donald Trump by famed Elle columnist, E. Jean Carroll.

In a cover story for New York Magazine published on Friday, Carroll chronicles the encounter she had with Trump in which the one-time-real-estate mogul allegedly sexually assaulted her in a dressing room of the Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York City.

The incident is one of six that Goodman describes in her new book, What Do We Need Men For? A Modest Proposal, scheduled for release on July 2.

Carroll says that the incident began in 1995 when she met Trump at Bergman Dorfman in an initially friendly encounter when he recognized her as "that advice lady." Carroll in turn, said she recognized him as "that real-estate tycoon" and they stop to chat for a brief moment. Trump tells her that he's there to purchase a gift for a girl and he wanted her advice on what to buy. She says she agreed, and the pair made their way to the ligerie section of the story.

At one point, Carroll says Trump suggested a lace bodysuit and encouraged her to try it on for him. When she refused, joking that he try it on instead.

Carroll says it's when they get to the dressing room area that things took a violent turn. She says Trump shoved her against a wall inside a dress room, pulled down her tights, and began "forcing his fingers around my private area, thrusts his penis half-way - or completely, I'm not certain - inside me."

Carroll, now 75, has been an advice columnist for Elle for several years and was a feature guest-writer for other magazines like Playboy and Esquire. She says she never reported the attack to police, but told two friends about her encounter with Trump at the time.

One the woman Carroll told said she needed to go to the police, "'He raped you,' she kept repeating when I called her. 'He raped you. Go to the police! I'll go with you. We'll go together.'"

Carroll describes her friend as a "journalist, magazine writer, correspondent on the TV morning shows, author of many books."

The other person Carroll told encouraged her to keep silent because Trump had "200 lawyers" and that he would "bury" her.

Carroll wore the Donna Karan coat-dress she says she was wearing at the time of the assault for the cover of her story.

"Receiving death threats, being driven from my home, being dismissed, being dragged through the mud," she writes of coming forward now, "and joining the 15 women who’ve come forward with credible stories about how the man grabbed, badgered, belittled, mauled, molested, and assaulted them, only to see the man turn it around, deny, threaten, and attack them, never sounded like much fun."
