Arizona Residents Are Attacking Self-Driving Cars

According to the New York Times, there have been at least 21 attacks on Waymo self-driving cars in Chandler, Arizona in the last two years. The autonomous vehicle company is a subsidiary of parent company Google.

Waymo vehicles have an emergency backup driver while the current round of testing is in progress, but many residents still don’t like them. Some have thrown rocks at the vehicles, while others just stand in front of the vehicles preventing them from moving. There are also reports of people threatening drivers with a pipe, gun and even a video showing a man throwing a brick through the window of a Waymo vehicle.
