Nick Jonas is dropping his new single “Jealous” on Sunday, but to hold us over until then, he called in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Thursday morning to give us a little tease and explain its inspiration.

The 21-year-old revealed that the lyrics for the song came about following a night out with his super-hot girlfriend, Miss USA 2012 Olivia Culpo, who understandably was turning a lot of heads.

“I was out with my girlfriend the night before I wrote this song … and I got heated,” reveals Nick. “I was doing all this fighting training for this show I just finished up [DirecTV's Kingdom], so I was ready to go. [But] I contained myself … and I came in the next day to the studio and wrote this song. I think it is true … a lot of people can relate with this, a lot of men, they don’t talk about it, it makes them uncomfortable. But I think vulnerability is good and it’s what makes us human.”

Still, doesn’t it also make him proud to have a girlfriend so hot people are taking notice? “Yeah, to a certain degree,” admits Nick. “It’s just when it’s constant when you’re trying to enjoy the evening that it can be a little bit too much.”

While we had Nick on the phone, he allowed Ryan and Ellen to play a 30-second teaser (listen to it at 4:19 mark in the audio above) of “Jealous” and it just from the little bit we heard, it’s clear the single will be a massive hit for him.

It’s already won over Olivia, he says. “It’s been fun to see the reaction, not only from her, but from a bunch of people.”

Nick called in to OAWRS from New York City, which is where Ryan and Ellen will broadcasting from on Monday at the Macys window in Herald Square, so Ryan suggested the singer come in to officially spin “Jealous” … and he agreed! “That would be unbelievable, let’s do it.”

Nick’s song “Jealous” will be available on iTunes on Sunday!
