It’s not everyday royalty stops by On Air with Ryan Seacrest.
On Tuesday morning, Prince Harry — we mean, look-alike Matthew Hicks — came in to talk about his new FOX dating show, I Wanna Marry Harry, which premieres tonight.
“I work for an environment consulting firm back at home, by day,” the redheaded Brit explains. “And by night, I moonlighted doing a few Harry gigs here and there … for pocket money. And then, the production company got in touch about this …”
And the rest is (what will likely be) reality show history.
In the premiere, the 12 American women vying for his love are having tea on the terrace of “his” mansion “and this helicopter started circling around the estate. And there, they start speculating … then I step out with security and they capture a very short glimpse and that’s all they see for the afternoon, and they’re left for three or fours to speculate, ‘Oh my goodness, could it be?”
But portraying a prince wasn’t in Matthew’s blood, so to speak, so he had to go to “royal school” to learn how to be like Harry.
“I’d learned everything there was to know about him,” he explains. “I learned everything I need to know and stuff I’ll probably never will use again in my life: how to ride a horse, play polo, etiquette lessons.”
As for the 12 American women competing to be a princess on I Wanna Marry Harry, Matthew says, “They made my job really easy. Dating is quite a nerve-wracking process anyway, let alone when you have 12 of them to deal with. They were very forward and chatty.”
But any that he’d actually like to marry? “There were some genuine connections were formed,” hints Matthew. “And there were some really cool girls on the show.”
And it’s revealed that Matthew is not the only one who was in the dark on the entire plot of the show. The ending of IWMH is “spectacular,” he says … and quite a surprise even to him.
I Wanna Marry Harry, which is produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions, premieres tonight, May 20, at 9/8c on FOX.
And then on this Thursday, May 22, “Harry” will be making an appearance at Santa Monica Place – Central Courtyard (395 Santa Monica Boulevard) from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m., so come on down and get a photo with the prince!
