The incident occurred just after 2:00 p.m. in on the trails west of the baseball field at Town Forest Park. DEEP officials said the 41-year-old woman was walking on a trail with her black Labrador Retriever on a leash when she came around a corner and encountered the bear. The woman tried to shout and scare the bear off.
The woman turned away from the bear when she couldn’t scare her off, but she was scratched on the back side of her upper legs as she moved away. DEEP officials said the woman did not need any medical attention.
Her dog (who remains nameless) was brave enough to actually chase the bear up a tree and save her life!
